All relationships encounter difficulties

The purpose of relationship counselling is to try to restore a more fulfilling and supportive partnership.

I work with both couples and individuals.  Sometimes I see individuals alone first, then start the couple’s work together, if this seems appropriate. It all depends on the issues.
Some of the common relationship issues are:

  • Poor communication
  • Frequent disagreements
  • Anger and/or criticism
  • Feeling ignored and disrespected
  • Sexual intimacy
  • Abuse (physical, emotional, sexual)
  • Affairs
  • Feeling incompatible
  • Feeling unloved
  • Prospect of separation and divorce

My first objective is to assist couples to feel safe about talking through difficulties. Respectful ways of listening and talking are learnt. Then we try to  clarify what the issues are  between you.

Each individual is asked to state clearly what he/she wishes to put into the relationship as well as what he/she wishes to get from it. Usually small tasks are set to be carried out between weekly sessions.
